Friends reunited

First day friends, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

They started out as friends in primary school several years ago, and here they are today beginning the next stage of their educational careers at Lancaster Girls' Grammar School. It was just a pity their other friends from Moorside Primary School had already gone in by the time we arrived - and we were ten minutes early! Long may they continue to be such eager learners...

p.s. Yasmin has asked me to point out that whilst her growth spurt has yet to happen, in this photo they are standing on a slope ;-)

  1. Lovely portrait, Eamon. They look so clean and well-scrubbed. As a former teacher, they represent my favorite kind of student - and I think you're right; they also look eager to learn!

  3. Thanks Jacob and goguchi. As a teacher, they represent my favourite kind too, Jacob. Nothing better than students happy to be in class and eager to get involved in new learning activities.

They've done really well to get to LGGS, having had to pass a competitive entrance exam last year. Moorside pupils got eight of the 117 places available (my figures may be off by one), so we were delighted when this core group of friends all made it together. They are a great bunch - just a pity I couldn't get them all together yesterday, my objective when I set out. Oh well, I'm sure to have many more opportunities.

  4. They look so nice and happy! What a beautiful picture. I have been enjoying taking my grandson to school so far this year. He is always so excited to get there.

  5. These transitions are a sobering time for parents, Eamon. She looks grand. Give her (and them) my best wishes.

  6. Wonderful that they are still eager to learn. And astounding that they remain friends for so long. Yasmin is such a nice looking girl that she needn't worry that she's not as tall as the others. ;-)
