Inspired by yesterday's portraits, it was time to hit
the streets again. Friday evening, I found these great characters on St. Mary's Parade and Dallas Road.
Thank you to all five young gentlemen. I guess it isn't every day one gets a photo request from a man in a hat with a camera. Hopefully one or more of you will leave a comment. Have a peaceful weekend.
Oh, these guys are cute and interesting. You must be a very personable guy to get people to readily agree to pose for portraits. Even my mom has a hard time letting me take a photo of her. LOL!
ReplyDeleteNikki, I've got one of those non-threatening faces. People look at me and think: "He's harmless!" :) Those guys are all interesting in their own right. I like the slight upwards tilt of the head a couple of them have.
ReplyDeleteHarmless! LOL! I wish that I had an invisible camera or at least could be more nonchalant. I get so frustrated when I see a great face and unguarded expression but I am not fast enough on that button and it is lost when my camera goes up and people's facial expression changes for the camera. I find myself telling my family, "Don't smile." But they take that to mean to make yet another face. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say gormless but don't like to be too self-critical!
ReplyDeleteI've found that chatting to subjects seems to ease the tension and 'force' natural poses (not to be tried with inanimate objects though). If they are listening or responding, the concentration on the 'pose' is diminished. It also delays time, providing space for more shots - very important in my case as two out of three shots are awful. Thanks again Nikki.
These are very great character shots. These pictures look like something you would find in a magazine!
ReplyDeleteNice portraits! I guess the three boys are brothers? Fun to walk around and find some happy "models."
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you visited my blog. Your comment led me straight here, where with awe I studied the beautiful faces. Such variety in humanity, yet such commonalities.
ReplyDelete@ KnoxvilleM - thanks, but a little too generous!
ReplyDelete@ Leif Hagen - not sure if they are brothers or not. They were in a group of 10-12 boys returning from Friday prayers at Lancaster Mosque. I asked for a photo of them all, but these three were the only takers. The smallest one took the lead and when I said I needed more than one, the other two jumped in and formed a natural sliding scale of bodies!
@ Meri - thanks. I'll be visiting your blog more often :)
I like these!
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of taking portraits but as yet haven't found the courage to approach interesting-looking strangers.
Your EG Tour Guide - I'm looking forward to seeing those portraits. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteThese are great portraits Eamon, really superb. Not many street photographers seem to take the approach of engaging with people and taking an 'authorised' portrait. I suppose they feel that they're capturing some kind of truth in an unguarded moment, and while that's sometimes true, the shot can often look off-puttingly intrusive I find. Your approach is obviously much warmer, with great results.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that PJ. I must get out and do some more portraits then!
