Aurora Tattoo

Iain works on David, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

David's back, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

Popped into Aurora Tattoo today, who were gracious enough to let me hang around and snap while David had work done to his upper body by Iain. David didn't grimace once, and neither did Iain. But I did. Twice.

There was strong natural light coming through the large full windows just behind David's back, which undoubtedly produced a good working environment for Iain. It didn't help the photography though.

Thanks David for letting me feel your pain, and thanks Iain and the others at Aurora Tatoo for putting up with me.

  1. Not exactly what I would have put on my body (I have been in health services all my working life), but I really appreciate the photography!

  2. Great work Eamon (and Iain). An excellent subject for photos, good thinking. I imagine I would have grimaced a few times too! The light seems to me to work perfectly in these shots, by the way - nice natural feel.

  3. I watched LA INK last night for the first time in years. Kat is quite a demanding sometimes. Anyway, I have a tattoo from Oakland, California and it was put on my arm in 1952 and now the red roses are black smudgy roses. The two leaves that were green have faded to dark gray. The only thing that stayed the same is the black outline. It is still black.

The stuff they do nowadays is nicer. It is blended and has many more colors but I wonder what it will look like fifty or sixty years from now.

Thanks for visiting my Brookville Daily Photo blog. I am glad you liked the Hawk Moth and that you have something similar there where you live.

  8. Their tattoos are beautiful works of art.

I would love to get one, but even through the beauty I can feel those needle pricks and I always end up saying 'nope!'

  9. Tattoos are very interesting I think. That's quite a monster on David's back.

  10. The light is just right, Eamon. A good natural result. I love photos showing the nape of the neck from behind. People at their most vulnerable.

It is quite a skill to be able to do. I have a small tat on my upper right arm which I have never regretted. It is a statement not art like Iain has created!

  11. Thanks again Julie. I know lots of people with small 'statement' tattoos like yourself, my brother being one. Don't have any body-statements or body-art myself though - always too busy using my mouth to make statements, never been that subtle! :)

  21. I think that everything said was very logical. But, consider this,
what if you composed a catchier post title?
I ain't suggesting your content isn't solid., however what if you added
a post title to maybe grab folk's attention? I mean "Aurora Tattoo" is a little plain. You might glance at Yahoo's front page and note how they create news titles to grab people interested.
You might add a related video or a picture or two to grab people excited
about what you've written. In my opinion, it could bring your posts a little livelier.
