Bad Boys: The Midland Hotel, Morecambe

Morecambe again today, this time on bicycles.

A wedding was in progress at The Midland Hotel, and I shot the best man and other friends of the groom. Took my camera out of the violin case and just shot them. Sprayed them with shutter releases. It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it.

These two survived the first shooting. With cool precision, I shot them again.

And here is The Midland Hotel from the beach. You can see my victims if you look closely enough. RIP.

Morecambe Beach

Beach log, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

The summer holidays are fast running out, so we made the short journey to Morecambe Beach, about three miles from the house. Despite the approaching autumn chill, August = beach for us (even if nobody else in Morecambe & Lancaster seems to agree).

But who needs people when you have a log for company? And with buckets and spades, why that adds up to a perfect summer day!

The third photo was taken earlier in the summer: same subjects, same location, same activity - but taken by my partner on her LG Renoir phone. It's a far superior photo of Yasmin & Caolan :(

Sunflower Day 2

A mere 14 hours later, the flower continues it movement towards maturity, spurred on by the light.

Late August opening

Hard to believe it's taken this long. Caolan's carefully planted seed finally produces yellow in the garden.

Regal Cinema

Regal Cinema, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

We have only lived in Lancaster a few years, but remember seeing quite a few films at the Regal, otherwise known as the Lancaster Odeon. Quite sad to see it like this. Somebody else seems to have been interested in the derelict building - you can see lots of photos they've taken inside the cinema here.

Flag-waving city

Flag-waving city, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

Last night's toilet revelations must have put nationalism on my mind; everywhere I looked this evening, flags were.

Well, one flag - dominating the city centre above Lancaster Castle.

But not the sky. The sky always wins.

The cross. The crown. The flag. The castle:

All diminished.

The sky is bigger, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

Toilet Recruitment

Poster in pub toilet, originally uploaded by Lancaster Today.

Went looking for a city scene to shoot.

Needed a pee so popped into a pub.

If I'd been broke - and very drunk - I might have been recruited.

Or maybe not.
